The Morning Section
29 cars met on Marine Drive, North Bay, Scarborough for the start of the 2013 Coast to Coast Run organised by Terry Hartley of The MG Car Club Yorkshire Centre 24/39 Group.
Blue skies and warm sunshine greeted us as we signed on and met our fellow travellers. A good mix of cars, mostly MGs, but a Bristol, Riley, Alvis and some Austins also joined in.
The morning route was a faily gentle run over a mix of roads from narrow country lanes to more major roads. The route instructions were superb with fuel, toilets and places of interest clearly marked.
The toilet stops were very popular.
We had a great morning and managed to avoid travelling in convoy most of the way.
Now the fun begins. This is the challenging part, according to the instructions. By heck! they were right. Narrow roads, steep climbs and descents but wonderful countryside. Roads these cars were made for, just great.
The route took us through East Witton, West Scrafton, Kettlewell, Arncliffe, Settle, Wigglesworth, The Trough of Bowland (beautiful place) and many other places before arriving at the finish in Morecambe.
We did hear that some of the entrants bypassed the hills. That's their loss as the views were spectacular.
I don't know how many cars finished, and I didn't count them, but it looked like most of them finished.
After a good dinner and convivial conversation it was time to hit the sack and recharge our batteries for tomorrows drive home.
Thanks to all who helped to organise this brilliant day. Great roads, great people, great cars and to top it all off, great weather. That's what it's all about.
The donations page for the British Heart Foundation is still open, if you're feeling generous. Thanks to those who donated on the day.
