What an amazing difference from the first time last year at this superb venue. Many more cars and much more going on. There seemed to be many more spectators too. We had a brilliant day thanks to the hard work of all who made it happen and kept it going on the day. I made a short video of the day and posted it on another website asking for a critique. A professional cameraman and teacher gave me some great advice so I made a second video. Which do you prefer?

It was a bright sunny day for this great event. A good turn out, I think there were twelve cars, made for some good competition. We took up our marshalling positions on the grass near a hedge only to be assailed by swarms of black flies. In my case I'm not sure if it was lack of deodorant or my bright yellow hi viz jackets, but I'll blame the jacket. There was plenty of time for the competitors to get in a good few runs and just before lunch they were carrying passengers as part of the Go Motorsport Initiative. This is a scheme to introduce members of the public to various aspects of motorsport and quite a few turned up to have a ride in an autotest car being driven competitively. Some were quite cool about it, some appeared cool but weren't and some just weren't cool about it at all. All credit to DMC and the drivers for taking part. The afternoon was more of the same with some good action and we finally closed up shop just before 4pm. A good day all round. A damp start to the day probably accounted for the poor turnout at this new venue. Only four cars, two with double entries made only six competitors which was a huge disappointment for the organisers who spent so much time organising the event. We weren't too happy as marshals either as we were looking forward to a good days motorsport. If club members don't support their club events, they may find there won't be any events to support. Rant over! Those that did turn out had a good time so it wasn't all bad. I haven't done any autotests since the late 1970s but seeing it made me think about having another go. Not too bad a day for us. We got a bit wet but dried out again and we saw some good action.

AuthorHi, I'm Owen and I've been having fun with MGs since 1970, starting with my 1937 MGTA. Since then I've had three Y types and a couple of Z Magnettes. I now have a 1971 MGB GT along with the TA and my wife and I are still having fun Archives
