A short drive to Rowsley South station to catch a train to Matlock to visit Masson Mill Museum. Peak Rail run the trains on a regular basis on certain days of the week, which made it ideal for our needs. It was a pleasant 20 minute trip.
Once we arrived in Matlock we thought we'd walk the mile from the station to Masson Mill. The only problem was that the mile was from Matlock South station which was a lot closer than we were. We decided to take the bus. After waiting for over an hour a bus finally turned up and we were on our way. Prices were painful. It's said that running a car is expensive. I couldn't afford to travel by bus all the time.
Masson Mill was great. Cheap entry and very informative. The cafe was good too.
They had three weaving machines running for demonstration and they were noisy. I can't imagine what it must have been like back in the day when there were weaving sheds with a thousand of these machines running at once.

The Victorians knew a bit about energy conservation. All the machinery in this mill would have been driven from one water wheel.
